Why do we need food?

All living beings need food and water.

 It gives energy to work.

It keeps us healthy.

It helps us to grow.

It gives us essential nutrients to fight against disease.

What is ingredient?

Ingredients are the components of our food. 

Different food items and made with different kinds of ingredients. 

For example, to make rice we need raw rice and water near raw rice and water at the ingredients of rice.

Food materials and sources

The main source of our food are plants and animals. 

Some of our food such as different grains vegetables and fruits at come from plants.

The food items like milk egg and made at home from animals.

Plant parts and animal products as food

Parts of a plant which does not cause any harmful effect in our body are called edible part. 

In many plants there are different edible parts in some plant it maybe the fruit in other it may be the flower and even in some plants it may be the root also.

What do animals eat?

The animals which eat only plants or plant product are called herbivores.

The animals which only eat the meat of other animals are called carnivores

The animals which it but plan and animals are called omnivores.

Every days is made up of one or more ingredients.  The ingredients are the edible part of plants or animals which contains some compounds which are needed by our body called nutrients.  The major nutrients of our food are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals.  Roughage and water are also needed by our body.  Not all the food materials that we eat have the same nutrients.
